We come to the end of our SIG Sauer week with another magnificent P226 X-FIVE, this time a 9x19mm SO SAO model in black Nitron. This is one of the last models introduced on the market by Sig Sauer GmbH in its Eckernförde factory, Germany. Read on for another LSB journey in firearms history…

Previous posts already touched on the history of the standard P226 pistol, which made its debut in the 1983 and achieved much success for the German firm. This tried and tested service pistol featured a locked breech design that was pioneered by SIG Sauer.

The P226 X-SERIES was the answer to what sport shooters demanded, a sport shooting system that can be tailored to any sport shooter’s skill level and shooting requirements. With the X-SERIES, SIG Sauer took sport pistol technology and performance to an entirely new level. Built around a common frame and slide design, this series of pistols provided greatly improved ergonomics and increased possibilities for easily customizing and optimizing the performance to meet specific needs. Common features to the line include an increased undercut for the beavertail and trigger guard, lowering the centreline of the barrel. The X-SERIES pistols also feature an M1913 Picatinny accessory rail.

This SIG Sauer X-FIVE SO SAO has a slide and frame that are milled out of solid blocks of stainless steel and finished in black Nitron. The pistol has a 5” barrel, front-cocking serrations, black polymer grips and a jet-funnel magwell. The single action only (SAO) trigger delivers a crisp pull that keeps the pistol on target
