The Beretta Modello 1934 pistol was a result of a 20-yearprocess of evolution, starting in 1915, when Tulio Marengoni designed his first semi-automatic pistol for Beretta. The model was adopted by the Italian army in 1934 in caliber 9mm Corto (9x17 Browning Short or .380 ACP). The Beretta M34 pistols were in use by the Italian military until the mid-1950s. Production of the Model 34 pistols and its minor variants lasted until about 1980, with more than a million of pistols made over more a period of over 40 years.
